Entertainment Gameplan for Writers
Classes on Tuesdays @ 5p PST / 8p EST
November Dates: Starts November 26th (11/26, 12/3, 12/10, 12/17)
"You don't know what you don't know." Practically the motto of entering the entertainment business, many aspiring writers make the move to Los Angeles to make their writing dreams come true but often don't have a gameplan on how to actually achieve that goal. It's more than just having a script or knowing people in high places (while that's a good start). The goal isn't to write on a show, it's to have a successful career in writing.
This 4-week course will break down stage-by-stage how to make moves and decisions to get yourself closer to becoming a staffed writer and having a lasting career in the industry. We'll cover what needs to be in your scripts, the tools & skills necessary to become an effective writer in the room, how to understand & navigate the entertainment business, and the pitfalls you need to avoid.
Each week covers a different stage of your development as a writer:
- Week One: From Idea to Script
- Week Two: From a Script to THE script
- Week Three: From Script to Support Staff
- Week Four: From Support Staff to Paid Writer
Weekly homework assignments will help you form a long-term gameplan to get yourself ready for the professional writing life.
Recommended For:
- Writers who feel they don't understand how the TV business works and how it connects to becoming a writer.
- Writers who are unsure of the serious steps necessary or trajectory to become a professional screenwriter.
